CHILD PSYCHOTHERAPY
Psychological challenges can cause developmental delays in children. Some of these psychological challenges include: depression; anxiety; trauma; the effect of loss, grief or change; aggression and violence; abuse; challenges in child/parent relationships and; coping with chronic illnesses.
At FaRIN, we offer Art and Play therapy as both assessment tools and approaches to treatment for children undergoing these challenges. These approaches are non-threatening and, therefore, allow children who are communicative as well as those who are non-communicative to easily express themselves. This gives the therapist an opportunity to get into their world and assess their well-being. Children find a place of healing through these creative expressions and are able resolve a wide variety of emotional, behavioural, educational, and social problems.
In child psychotherapy we employ techniques which connect with the child and these include:
- Art therapy
- Play therapy
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
Individual counselling involves a relationship between an individual client and a counsellor. Through ongoing conversations, this relationship fosters a safe place where individuals can identify and explore issues that may be causing distress and/or interruptions in their lives. This collaborative process can work to create new ways of seeing oneself, highlight one’s existing strengths and, improve problem-solving strategies.
At FaRIN, counsellors provide a supportive, skilled, professional relationship to clients, applying theories, principles and mechanisms that allow for the counselling process to progress to conclusion.
In individual counselling, the client is expected to put forward his or her concerns as openly and honestly as possible. The role of counsellor is to listen carefully to clients, highlight patterns of thinking and responding, and to invite clients to consider improved ways of seeing and dealing with their situation.
At FaRIN, counsellors provide a supportive, skilled, professional relationship to clients, applying theories, principles and mechanisms that allow for the counselling process to progress to conclusion.

GROUP THERAPY
Group counselling provides a safe and supportive environment in which personal change can be made. Talking in a group about one’s challenges be they emotional, physical, academic, interpersonal, social, or family problems can help reduce distress and bring insight and change. The participants benefit by receiving professional assistance as well as having the opportunity to interact with other participants who may be in similar situations, or who may be able to provide different perspectives.
Thus, group participants have the opportunity to see themselves in a different light and explore possibilities for themselves. Members can explore and better understand themselves and learn how to cope with difficulties
At FaRIN, groups usually consist of between six and 12 people. They meet weekly with one or two counsellors facilitating the sessions. On the most part, our groups are formed along themes, that is, those meeting in a given group are dealing with specific issues such as disordered eating, grief and loss, traumatic experiences, support for caregivers of those with terminal illnesses, etc.

Therefore mediation services could save you time in court but at the same time resolve your issue as quickly as possible and with as little cost compared to court procedures.
The role of the mediator is to encourage discussion and understanding, and to help people in conflict to negotiate more effectively. Mediators at FaRIN provide specialised information that helps clients to manage the emotional impact of conflict situations with the aim of working out the fairest settlement.
Through mediation, an amicable and co-operative climate is created rather than a conflictual one. This is to the benefit of the involved parties.
